FAQ
Here you will find answers to our most frequently asked questions to help you better understand how Preco Golden Laser can help you.
- What safety requirements are there when working with lasers?
- How much training will I need to be able to operate a PGL machine?
- Can I have training at my facility instead of at PGL?
- How much does it cost to own and run a PGL laser system?
- What does my facility need to run the laser?
1. What safety requirements are there when working with lasers?
Safety eyewear - PGL sells Class I and Class IV lasers
-
For Class I lasers there are not any special requirements as the laser beam is fully contained inside the machine. Only maintenance personnel need special eyewear when performing some maintenance tasks. These requirements are typically the same as those for Class IV laser systems.
-
Class IV lasers require anyone near the system (typically in the same room) to wear specially marked Laser approved safety glasses. Each installation can vary so contact us with your specific floor layout and we can help you out.
LSO - Laser Safety Officer
-
Any business with over five employees using a laser system must have a designated LSO on staff. This is an FDA (OSHA?) requirement. PGL can help you with the requirements of this law.
2. How much training will I need to be able to operate a PGL machine?
We assume you have experience with Windows based products plus use CorelDraw, AutoCAD, Adobe Illustrator, or other software that will allow you to supply .dxf, .ai, .plt, and .bmp files for our software to use to control motion. If you need to learn this as well as how to learn the machine PGL can work with you to bring you up to speed with these formats.
Not much training is needed as the software is easy to understand, 1 day and you will be processing materials on your own. Depending on how many different applications you need to learn it can take longer than 1 day. Training in our facility is included in the sale of the machine.
3. Can I have training at my facility instead of at PGL?
Yes, but it will cost you travel expenses.
4. How much does it cost to own and run a PGL laser system?
They are pretty much self contained, and only draw electricity. Sealed laser, self contained assist air, closed-loop chiller and external exhaust (which can be run through the laser system once we get the electrical correct).
5. What does my facility need to run the laser?
- The majority of our machines run on 220 volt single phase 60 Hz. That is the same as an electric water heater. Current requirements vary by machine depending on configuration and laser power, but most are at or below 30 amps.
- Floor space. The design of the PGL machines is intended to minimize floor space requirements. As a rule of thumb, you can figure about 1m over your required table size to fit the machine for standard systems. Each models product page contains a footprint.
- Exhaust vented outside or a filtering system that can be vented internally. PGL can recommend filter systems but we do not deal with them directly.
